KAR AUCTION SERVICES COLLECTS NEARLY 27,000 LBS. OF FOOD FOR MIDWEST FOOD BANK
CARMEL, Ind., December 10, 2015—KAR Auction Services, Inc. (NYSE: KAR), a provider of used vehicle auction services, today announced record-breaking results of the company’s annual food drive at the KAR corporate office. This year’s total of cash and food donations reached 26,822 items, or just under 27,000 pounds, and was donated to the Indianapolis branch of Midwest Food Bank.
“I am proud to be part of such an amazing group of people who rally together to support our community,” said Jim Hallett, chairman and CEO of KAR Auction Services. “Our annual ‘battle-of-the-floors’ food drive brings out our competitive spirits, but also shows the compassion and generosity of our entire team.”
This is the company’s fifth annual food drive, held each November, and each year’s tally has far exceeded the previous year.
Midwest Food Bank strives to alleviate hunger and poverty through the distribution of food donation to nonprofits, food pantries and disaster sites.
“I want to express our sincere thanks for what you guys do each year with this drive,” said Jeremy Baynai, operations manager at Midwest Food Bank, in an email to KAR. “Your teams donated 19 pallets—nearly a full semi-truck! To put that in perspective, the average American dinner would be right around 1.5 pounds of food. So your donation provided dinner to 18,000 Hoosiers. That’s an incredible feat for one company in one week.”
