KAR Global Fundraising for JDRF Reaches $1.6 Million in 2019

More Than $1 Million Worth of Food Donated to Food Banks

CARMEL, Ind. – February 7, 2020 – KAR Auction Services, Inc., d/b/a KAR Global (NYSE: KAR), addressed critical social issues, primarily food insecurity and diabetes research, through charitable partnerships, fundraising drives and donations in 2019. Highlights include topping $1,650,000 for JDRF, monetary donations to food banks that will fund the distribution of more than $1 million worth of food for those in need, and more than $200,000 pledged to United Way of Central Indiana.

“When it comes to community and social responsibility, KAR Global’s motto is, ‘We believe in second chances for cars, people and communities.’ And we’re proud to live that every day,” said Jim Hallett, chairman and CEO of KAR Global. “We operate in more than 200 locations around the world, and we know that strong, stable communities help our company, our employees, and their families and neighbors succeed and thrive. We focus on causes that matter to our employees, like health, hunger and skills training, and it’s always great to see our people step up and help others so generously.”

Over the past eight years, KAR business unit ADESA has partnered with fleet management company EMKAY and the Ford Global Action Team in separate campaigns to raise money for JDRF, a global organization funding type 1 diabetes research. This year’s efforts tipped the lifetime total of the two campaigns to $1,650,406. Another $5,000 was donated to JDRF by KAR business unit OPENLANE in honor of its 20th anniversary.

In 2019, KAR Global HQ’s annual food drive focus shifted from collecting canned goods to raising money. In this “FoodLESS Food Drive,” Central Indiana KAR employees raised $24,446 for Midwest Food Bank. Because every dollar donated to the food bank funds the distribution of more than $40 worth of food for the hungry, this contribution resulted in more than $960,000 worth of delivered food. Similarly, OPENLANE donated $10,000 to United Food Bank in Mesa, Arizona, home of OPENLANE’s tech hub.

During KAR’s annual campaign for United Way of Central Indiana, KAR employees pledged more than $107,000. KAR matched these pledges dollar-for-dollar, and one-time gifts pushed the grand total to $218,994 for people in need. Over the past eight years, employee donations and KAR’s dollar-for-dollar match have resulted in a total of $1,178,600 donated to United Way.

Additional charity auctions and fundraisers at company locations across the United States and Canada raised more than $150,000 for various causes, such as children’s hospitals, local Make-A-Wish chapters, women’s shelters and flood victims. Donation drives, especially those during the end-of-year holidays, focused on collecting toys, stocking food pantries and caring for the homeless.
