Life at OPENLANE: Q&A with Johanna Bautista, Financial Operations Program Manager at OPENLANE

With more than 15 years at OPENLANE, Johanna Bautista, Financial Operations Program Manager, gives us the deets on the best career advice she’s heard, how to overcome challenges and her love for T. Swift.

What has your journey at OPENLANE looked like?

I joined OPENLANE in 2007. Over the years, I held various positions within the company, but I am now a Program Manager for finance operations.

What is something you are most proud of during your time here?

Being involved in all the automation projects and new program setups that make our team more efficient — it was a great learning experience.

Which of our company values resonates most with you?

Relentless Curiosity — wanting to learn and asking questions is how you improve as an employee. Then you’ll be able to problem solve, bring insight and assist others.

What is your favorite part about your line of work?

Getting to interact with different teams. I get to work with people I’ve never met from across the organization. It keeps things very interesting and fun.

What is the best career advice you’ve ever heard? What advice would you give to new employees?

Own your mistakes! It’s the best way to learn. Don’t come in with the mindset that you know everything. Be curious, receptive to feedback and ask a ton of questions if you have them.

What would you say is the best way to overcome challenges?

It’s simple — by asking for help. The best way to overcome this is first admitting that you need help and accepting it from those willing to help you.

What is a song can you not stop listening to right now?

Can we choose an artist instead? Because I am totally stuck in this artist’s cinematic universe.

Yes of course! Which artist?

Taylor Swift and the Eras Tour. I always liked Taylor but the tour has made me not be able to stop listening to her music. I’ve seen her in concert and she’s great! I hope she comes to Canada soon.

(Interviewer note: Since this interview, Taylor Swift announced six Canadian tour dates. Power of the Waybuilder!)
